MADE WITH ARTISTS
Editions STAC

The St. Gallen Art Club publishes its own editions. For each one we invite an artist to develop a new work with us. Our members help fund each new edition with their fee.
What are Editions
An edition is an original artwork that the artist makes in a fixed number of pieces. The pieces can be identical, or each one can be unique. The artist decides how many there will be, that number is fixed from the start, and once the edition is sold, no more are made.
An edition is easy to confuse with a reproduction. A poster shows a picture of a work that hangs somewhere else. With an edition, the piece on your wall is the work itself.
For many collectors an edition was the first work they bought. It carries the same thinking as an artist's larger pieces, at a price that leaves room to begin.
Good to know
Edition size
The total number of pieces. The smaller the edition, the rarer each piece.
Unique pieces
In some editions each piece is made by hand and no two are the same. Edition No. 1 is one of them.
Numbering
7/30 means piece number seven of thirty. All numbers of an edition are equal in value.
Artist's proof (AP)
A few additional pieces outside the numbering that usually stay with the artist.
Signature and certificate
The artist signs each piece by hand and so confirms it as their work. Where the material does not allow a signature, a certificate does the same.

How we make Editions
1 Invite
2 Develop
3 Produce
4 Release
We invite an artist whose work we have followed and want to support. We focus on artists with a relation to Switzerland.
Artist and club develop a new work together. It is made for STAC and exists in no other form.
The work is produced in a fixed number of pieces. We finance the production, and the surplus goes into the next edition.
All pieces go on sale at the same time, at the same price for everyone.
What Editions do
For the Artist
For our Members
An edition gives an artist the means to try something new, with production taken care of and an audience that is waiting for the result.
Members help make each edition possible with their fee. They meet the artist and follow the work as it takes shape.
